The European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Tibor Navracsics met with HE Head of Qatar's Mission to the European Union Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani, and head of GCC's mission to the European Union Amal Al Hamad.

During the meeting, they discussed support to HE Cultural Advisor to HH the Emir Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz Al Kuwari, who is Qatar's candidate to the post of the Director-General of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO).

While outlining Qatar's candidate extensive experience, the head of Qatar's mission to the EU highlighted Qatar's support to UNESCO as well as its efforts in the fields of education, culture and heritage, pointing to the close cooperation between the two sides.

The head of the GCC's mission said that the changes taking place in the Arab world require EU's support to the region's candidate to the post of UNESCO Director-General. For his part, the European Commissioner praised the distinguished Qatar- EU relations and lauded Qatar's leading role in educational and cultural field in the Arab region through its initiatives aimed at educating children as well as its role in other regions through supporting UNESCO's activities.
