HE Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the Brussels Forum Conference in the Belgian capital from 21 to 22 March.
He expressed at the Forum the keenness of the State of Qatar to promote relations with the European Union, as he expressed, through his participation in panel discussion about the situation in the Middle East and challenges facing the region, the positive role played by the State of Qatar in the region. "The State of Qatar plays a strategic role in this area, we are part of the international community and we have obligations towards each other" he said. “The State of Qatar is one of the largest country exporting energy in the world so we are keen on the stability of the region and thus export energy to our friends in the world on a sustainable way " he added.
HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs, also emphasized the commitment of the State of Qatar to humanitarian support for the population in the Arab spring countries. "One third of the Arab population are young people who have ambition and mental ability and creativity that enable them to rebuild their country. But they need support and this is everyone's responsibility. We must all cooperate in it, "pointing to the history of European revolutions which ended with democracy and an economic recovery that we are currently experiencing.
"As it is the case in the Middle East, it takes time," he said stressing the importance of protecting the new democratic process in the Arab world and give it more time. On the disagrement between Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar on the Syrian file, his Excellency the Foreign Minister denied the rumors, and said: "we are on the Syrian file at the highest level of coordination with the Friends of Syria Group and especially with Saudi Arabia."
Replying to a question about the role of the State of Qatar in education as a means of Qatar's humanitarian support to developing countries, he confirmed that Qatar National vision 2030 based on human development. The support of the State of Qatar to the educational sector is on a local and international level as Development Fund allocates 50% for education initiatives in the region and Africa.
"We provide quality education and higher education to enable our children to use the right tools to serve their country," he is optimistic of the role of Qatari youth in making more achievements to serve their country, and stressed that "there are many examples which enables youth to demonstrate their capacity to do a lot of good things for the State, the most important one of them is the World Cup 2022, which was set up by Qatari youth people.
The Forum was opened by HH the King of Belgium, the Forum, supported by the German Marshall Fund, is one of the most important forums in Europe, where decision makers, officials and intellectuals exchange ideas and views on international and regional issues.
