The Foreign Minister, HE Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah, met here on Wednesday the EU High Representative Catherine Ashton.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the latest developments in the Middle East. Dr. Al Attiyah stressed the importance of Egypt's strategic role in the region, calling on the European Union to cooperate with the members of the Arab League to save the Syrian people from the ongoing massacres. HE the Foreign Minister also met with NATO Secretary-General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen. The two sides have exchanged views on regional affairs.

HE the Foreign Minister's visit to Brussels has witnessed the signing of a protocol between the Belgian Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation and the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs on political consultations, following a meeting with his Belgian counterpart Didier Reynders. Dr. Al Attiyah also met with members of the Qatar-EU Friendship Group, discussing with them means of enhancing bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Belgium in various fields.
