UNHCR Award

BRUSSELS, Belgium

For exceptional efforts and contributions, The Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has been awarded the “Humanitarian Hero Shield” by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The foundation’s interventions and initiatives in the fields of humanitarian and social development work, both locally and internationally, have been praised by the UNHCR as emblematic in setting strong values of humanity, quality, neutrality and universality.

The UNHCR has expressed its gratitude for the foundation’s support in the work undertaken to help vulnerable communities in Bangladesh, Somalia and Ethiopia, as well as Syrian refugees living in Jordan. Their sponsorship of the “Lifeline” project has been particularly commemorated as it enabled Syrian refugee families to pay the minimum cost of living, such as rent, food and services, as well as providing ongoing assistance for refugees who are not registered and dispersed in random camps.

A statement made by the UNHCR referred to a letter of appreciation sent to the Foundation with a certificate of partnership, and expressed its pleasure to co-operate with RAF in several areas, as well as highlighting its role in alleviating the suffering of venerable societies.
